As we buy our groceries this week and the kids are eyeing the Easter goodies I ask Avery, "why do we celebrate easter, why do we care?" And just as simply he says "because Jesus died for me, that's why mommy... now can I get some eggs?"
There is nothing that makes me prouder than to hear him verbalize an understanding of God's love. It's hard to know when kids really get the message of salvation. A relationship with Christ grows throughout your life, it's not necessarily a one time experience that buys you a ticket to heaven, or knowing the right answers to some Bible trivia. Both Avery and Elly are quick to memorize the right answers, but it's their hearts that we pray for everyday, that they will make a choice to be in the world, not of it.
And yes, we bought a bag of easter eggs. I've gritted my teeth as they have been thrown various places around the house this week (ughh I hate those things!). Now if I can only find a food dye free easter egg kit..... :-)
Thank you to my sweet hubby for an early 30th birthday gift... a new lens for my camera!
Aly,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought about coloring eggs using natural ingredients (crushed berries, grass, teas, coffee, etc...)? Also, I came across an interesting activity using sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol to tie-dye shirts...I don't know if you could use this same concept to color eggs. Let them color the eggs with sharpies and then use rubbing alcohol to swirl the colors...just a thought?!
Julia
I love the idea of sharpies and rubbing alcohol! See thats where I need craft friends to help me out!
